A rectangle has a length that is twice the width if the perimeter of the rectangle is 96 inches, what is the area of the rectangle? find the length and the width first, using an equation.

Let the width of the rectangle = x

Length = 2x

Perimeter = 96 inches

2 * ( length + width) = 96

2 * ( 2x + x ) = 96

2 * 3x = 96

3x = 96/2 = 48

3x = 48

x = 48/3

x = 16 inches

Width = 16 inches

Length = 2*16 = 32 inches

Area = length*width

= 32*16

= 512 sq.cm
