There are 18 blocks across width and 48 blocks run up and down the length of quilt.

Solution:

Given, A quilt is 72 inches wide and 96 inches long.

The blocks have 4 inch sides

Finding number of blocks run across the width of quilt:

\text { number of blocks across width }=\frac{\text { width of quilt }}{\text { length of each block }}

=(72)/(4)=18 \text { blocks }

Finding number of blocks run across length:

\text { number of blocks across length }=\frac{\text { length of quilt }}{\text { width of each block }}

=(96)/(4)=24 \text { blocks. }

Finding number of blocks run up and down the length of the quilt:

\text { number of blocks run up and down }=2 * \text { number of blocks across length }

=2 * 24=48 \text { blocks }

Hence, there are 18 blocks across width and 48 blocks run up and down the length of quilt
