When an electron moves from one atom to others, both the atoms become ions.

EXPLANATION:

An atom can lose electrons or even gain electrons in its shell. Ionic bonding makes the atoms as ions and it involves the process in which atom loses and gains electron in the bonding. This bonding also reveals the sharing of electrons by the atoms.

Cations and Anions are the two types involved in the ionic bonding.Cations lose an electron and forms a positive ion, while the anions gains an electron and forms a negative ion. Due to this atoms exhibits stable electron configuration. For example Ionic bond of Sodium Fluoride: NaF.
