Water has a high surface tension, mercury being the highest among other liquids. The hydrogen bonding of molecules of water is the reason behind this high tension. Water’s surface tension at 20 degree Celsius is – 0.07275 joule/ sqmt.

Hydrogen bonding!

Since hydrogen is partially negative, and oxygen is partially positive, the water molecules form a hydrogen bond which is incredibly strong which is why it has the standard specific heat of 1.
