How did Ernest Rutherford determine that most of the mass of an atom is
in a tiny nucleus? *

Answer: Ernest Rutherford concluded that most of the atom is empty space because majority of the alpha particles when straight through the gold foil. In addition, a small fraction of alpha particles bounced back, which showed the existence of the nucleus. These are the two observations during his well-known Gold Foil Experiment.
