A) 3(84-x) = 12+x

252-3x= 12+x

252-12= 4x

240x=4x

⇒ x= $60

b)in my opinion this problem is easier to solve using an equation than by the tape diagram because of very easy calculation and can avoid the tedious work of drawing tape diagram.
