The Long family and the Harris family each used their sprinklers last summer. The water output rate for the Long family's sprinkler was 25L per hour. The water output rate for the Harris family's sprinkler was 35L per hour. The families used their sprinklers for a combined total of 55 hours, resulting in a total water output of 1625L. Answer:

Explanation:

Given

Rate of Long family's sprinkler is 25 L/hr

rate of Harris family's sprinkler is 35 L/hr

Total time for which sprinkler is used =55 hr

Let long family run their sprinkler for x hr

therefore Harris family time=55-x

Total volume collected=1625 L

thus

25* x+35* (55-x)=1625

25x+1925-35x=1625

1925-1625=10x

300=10x

x=30 hr

long family used for 30 hr and Harris family used for 20 hr
