A wood piece 100 centimetre is cut into pieces so that the longer piece is 10 centimetres longer than twice the length of the shorter piece. What is the length of the longer piece?

we know that


x+y=100 ----> equation A


x=2y+10 ----> equation B

substitute equation B in equation A


2y+10+y=100

Solve for y


2y+y=100-10


3y=90


y=30\ cm

Find the value of x


x=2y+10 ---->
x=2(30)+10=70\ cm

therefore

The length of the longer piece is 70 cm
