Fanny had 5 times as many toys as Simon. After their aunt gave each of them 108 toys, Fanny had twice as many toys as Simon. How many toys do they have in all now?​

ANSWER:

The toys with Fanny and Simon is 432.

SOLUTION:

Let, the number of toys with fanny be x and number of toys with Simon be y.

Given that, Fanny had 5 times as many toys as Simon.

Then, x = 5y ---- (1)

And after their aunt gave each of them 108 toys, Fanny had twice as many toys as Simon.

x + 108 = 2(y + 108)

x + 108 = 2y + 216

x – 2y = 216 – 108

x – 2y = 108 ---- (2)

Now substitute the (1) in (2)

5y – 2y = 108

3y = 108

y = 36

Again substitute y value in (1)

x =
5 * 36

x = 180

Now, total toys with them = (x + 108) + (y + 108)

= (180 + 108) + (36 + 108) = 432

Hence, the toys with fanny and simon is 432.
