The Great Awakening was a revival of religion and caused religion to spread throughout the colonies, especially in New England. The Awakening left people to understand that the power and freedom of religion resided in their own mind and hands and they did not have to rely on the Church of England to gain their religious freedom. This caused them to self-govern and be more independent and eventually prepare for future wars like the American Revolution.
