Why did Elvis Presley become such a controversial figure in the 1950s?

He was controversial because the church thought he was from the devil, the way he danced and sang and made the girls crazy. He was banned and his records were thrown away by a few religious groups. After that the police came to watch his show, and they decided that Elvis could move strangely anymore, or at least be filmed from the waist up.
