Jamie was confused on using conjunctive adverbs. She wrote the following sentences. Ken ate the entire sundae himself; besides, he feels sick. When she reads it, it doesn’t sound quite right. How can Jamie fix the conjunctive adverb? What strategies can you give her to determine the correct conjunctive adverb to use?

The sentence should be: Ken ate the entire sundae himself; therefore, he feels sick.

Strategies: see if you’re joining 2 independent clauses.
Are you showing contrast, comparison, concession, emphasis? Those are a few ways conjunctive adverbs are grouped. There are several more too.
If you need more help, let me know.
