The plasmodium is able to move about by movement of the cytoplasm within the cell. Within each strand of plasmodium, the cytoplasmic contents move rapidly. Movement of the plasmodium is carried out when the cytoplasm streams in the direction the plasmodium is moving and is withdrawn from the rear areas.
