While this resulted in rapid development of the Europeans compared to the rest of the world, it also contributed to large scale destruction of the environment on the continent.

In fact, the only Europeans, though in the ancient times, that were living in harmony with the environment were the Celts. That changed unfortunately when they were Romanized and gradually lost their culture.

Nowadays though the Europeans seem to have realize the mistakes they have made in the past toward the environment, and they are the ones that are leading the preservation and recuperation if it.
