A pole that is 3.5m tall casts a shadow that is 1.47m long. At the same time, a nearby tower casts a shadow that is 42.75m long. How tall is the tower? Round your answer to the nearest meter.

Solution:

Given,

Height of the pole = 3.5 m

Length of the shadow of the pole = 1.47 m

Length of the shadow of the tower nearby = 42.75 m

Let us assume the height of the tower as x


(height of the pole)/(length of the shadow of the pole)=(height of the tower)/(length of the shadow of the tower)


(3.5)/(1.47) = (x)/(42.75)

On solving for x we get,


x = (3.5)/(1.47)* 42.75


x = 101.785 m

On rounding off to the nearest meter we get,

x=102 m


\therefore
The height of the tower is 102 meter.
