Cellular respiration is the process by which glucose molecule is broken down to release energy in form of ATP. The major waste product of this process of respiration, however, is Carbon dioxide (CO2).

Since all cells in a living organism like human, whether kneecap cells or brain cells, undergo respiration, CO2 is excreted out of all cells via DIFFUSION i.e the CO2 molecules move out of the cell where it is in high concentration into the bloodstream, where it is in low concentration via the cell membrane. The blood transports the CO2 waste to the alveoli of the lungs, where it is finally exhaled out of the body.
