Royal colonies: These were owned by the king.
Proprietary colonies: These were land grants, exclusively from the British government. People who owned these would supervise them for the British government then report it directly to the King.
Self-governing colonies: These are formed with a King's grant. Own colony and government set up by the British government. King can revoke grant at any time if he is displeased.
