Answer and Explanation:

  • Both the Rayleigh and love waves are seismic waves.
  • Rayleigh wave demonstrates an elliptical movement. It tends to be longitudinal and transverse. It has relatively lower velocity as compared to the love wave. Its movement resembles ocean wave.
  • The nature of love wave is transverse and it has comparatively higher velocity than that of Rayleigh wave.the motion of love wave in the ground is from side to side.
  • Note that the velocity of the surface wave is in every case not exactly the body wave and is lesser than the body wave.
