A grandfather is ten times older than his grand daughter. He is also 54 years
older than her. Find their present ages.

Answer: 5.4 estimated to 5

Explanation: let, the age of grandfather be 54 which is also 10X that of the granddaughters age.

• 10x=54

• x=54/10

• x=5.4 or 5

Answer: Grandpa: 60 Granddaughter: 6

Explanation: When I first saw this, I noticed you can not get one solid whole number with a number like 54, so I rounded it up to 60, because 10 percent of 60 is 6. It IS possible for someone to be 5.4, but with age, not a lot of people care to go down to the decimal point. I then checked the other part. 60 IS 54 years more than 6, so 60 is correct.
