In the study each person eats the same amount. So if we take the whole amount eaten over the 2 year period and divide it by 9, we get:

1566/9=174lbs. or potatoes per person over 2 years.

Now we can simply divide that number by two to get:

174/2= 87lbs of potato per person per year.
