Keratin is what makes up the hair strands and our nails to strengthen them. Melanin is found in our skin and causes you to have the skin colour you have. For example dark skin people have more melanin than light skin people who have less

Melanin darkens the skin and hair. Melanin protects the skin and eyes from light and the damage/radiation caused by the sun. Keratin strengthens the skin and hair cells, but can be found all over the body. Keratin is made up of proteins which gives it the strengthening properties.
