How to figure out -2 3/4 divided by 1/2

Answer: -5 1/2

Explanation:

When dividing fractions, we follow a rule called "Keep, change. flip." You keep the first fraction the same, change the division symbol to a multiplication symbol, and flip the last fraction.

-2 3/4 turned into an improper fraction: 4 * 2 + 3 = 11/4

11 * 2 = 22

4 * 1 = 4

= -22/4

4 goes into 22 5 times, but we'd still have 1 left over.

5 2/4

This can be reduced once more to 5 1/2

Then we add the negative sign back in.

-5 1/2.
