The Southern States tried to limit the rights of African American by implementing the laws of Jim Crow. The laws separated the African American from the White by separating (segregating) restaurants, hospitals, school, and public services. Also banned them from voting and electing Government. It was the reaction to Reconstruction and to show the power of white supremacy in the South.
