African Americans continued to face threats in the South. For example, people were threatening violence and even murder against them. African Americans did nothing to deserve such behavior. However, people with white skin believed they were not ''human'' because of the color of their skin and deserved to be punished. Congress didn't do much to prevent this, but they would send federal troops to monitor their behavior.
