Two square are drawn. The larger square has area of 400 square inches. The areas of the two square have a ratio of 1:4. What is the side length s of the smaller square?

The length of smaller square is 5 inches.

Explanation:

As we know that,

Area of square = Side × Side

Let the length of smaller square be "a".

and, Let the length of larger square be "b".

Also it is given that,


(Area of Smaller Square)/(Area of Larger Square) = (1)/(4)


(a^(2))/(b^(2)) = (1)/(4)


(a^(2))/(400) = (1)/(4)


a^(2) = (400)/(4)

⇒ a² = 100

⇒ a = 10

Hence, Length of smaller square is 10 inches.
