Why did President Lincoln reject the Crittenden Compromise?

President Lincoln is known was erradication slavery from it's roots from America. Being a difference in race the blacks were considered as the low class people and were treated like slaves, to stop slavery he was the living icon of all the blacks.

But President Lincoln reject the Crittenden because it would reduce the number of slave states. He thought that this compromise would really settle the slavery. It was the step that helped him towards reducing slavery.
