He and other patriotic Germans were outraged and humiliated by the harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles. He was appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933 after a series of electoral victories by the Nazi Party. Hitler created political confusion in many ways. Lots of those ways consisted of breaking treaties and saying what he knew the people wanted to hear.
