It is understandable though why the Mongols have been described as barbaric plunderers by these people, as the Mongols did many horrific things to them. Generally speaking, the Mongols were nothing worse than the other empires of that time period, just that they did it on a much larger scale over much larger territory. After the Mongols established their empire though, they were the ones responsible for the period of peace known as Pax Mongolica, which led to huge increase in the trade between Asia and Europe. They were also tolerant of other ethnic groups and other religions.
