Half an hour later Runner B crosses the starting line and runs at an average rate of 6.4 miles per hour. If the length of the marathon is 26.2 miles which runner will finish ahead of the other? t=(26.2mi)/(5.6mph) =4.68 hours = 280.8minutes

Runner B:


t=(26.2mi)/(6.4mph) =4.09 hours = 245.4minutes]

Since Runner B is starting 30 minutes later, you can add 30 minutes to his total time:

245.5 minutes + 30 minutes = 275.5 minutes

Thus Runner B will finish before Runner A
