An atom has always an equal number of protons and electrons. This is because the positive particles equal out the negative particles and their charge

Answer: An atom does not have a charge because, protons have a +1 charge and electrons have a -1 charge. The number of protons is equals the number of electrons so the charges balance out to a neutral charge leaving the atom to not have an overall charge.
