Does this sentence require a comma, or does it not matter? And explain your reason. The comma in between "winner" and "many".

The sentence is "Since the time he was announced winner, many debates have sparked up on whether a song writer could be a candidate to this award."

Yes, there needs to be a comma because it’s a longer introductory prepositional phrase
