The first thing that happens is blebbing of the cell mebrane (buldging out), the cell then shrinks and the nucleus becomes fragmented releasing its contents. There will be condensation of the cnromatin material and the last step is DNA fragmentation. A cell then becomes dead and is picked up by a macrophage for further breakdown.
