x = 4

Explanation:

2x + y = 6 ... (i)

x - 6 = y ... (ii)

y = 6 - 2x ... (i)

y = x - 6 ... (ii)

So,

6 - 2x = x - 6

x + 2x = 6 + 6

3x = 12

x = 12/3 = 4
