The formula for slope is
(y_(2) -y_(1) )/(x_(2) -x_(1) )

In this case:


y_(2) = 1\\ y_(1) }= -3\\x_(2) = -4\\x_(1) = 0

so...


(1 - (-3))/(-4 - 0)


(4)/(-4)

The slope is also called the gradient, m.

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

x1 = 0

y1 = 3

x2 = -4

y2 = 1

we therefore substitute for the values in the formula

m = (1-⁻3)/(⁻4-0)
