Latin America was a region which was of great interest for both the United States and the Soviet Union. During the Cold War this brought much more tension and instability in the region. The situation worsened because both the US and the USSR were supporting certain side, and they were giving their best to make the nations in this region in accordance to their ideology. That resulted in numerous coups, civil wars, countless deaths, injuries, sponsored dictators on power, pretty much everything that the people didn't wanted. That lasted for several decades, and even after the countries finally went into certain direction, the tensions were still there because according to the other big power, they have chosen the wrong side and now they were enemies.
