The pro-democracy demonstrations in China in 1989 led to a brutal response from the government, violently stopping the demonstrations, with lot of victims in the process. The Communist Party is not a party that is very fond of political opponents or people that show disobedience so when the demonstrations occurred they were angered a lot. The Communist Party showed no mercy, and they sent soldiers and tanks into the crowd with an order to beat up, kill, and run over the people that demonstrated. So it was, the military shut down the demonstrations and lot of people ended up dead or badly injured, while the Communist Party managed to further strengthen its position in the Chinese society.
