y= x -3

to get the Anwer I got i Subtracted

Because the output value is supposed to be five so?

5= x-3

Well 2 does get 5 if you add 2+ 3 together!

but if you subtract 3 -2 you get 1..

and 5 - 3 = 2 not 5

and adding 8 + 3 is 11 but subtracting it is 5!

which is

5= 8 - 3

The input value is the x value, and the output value is the y value.

You know y = 5, so you can plug it into the function to find the input:

y = x - 3 Plug in 5 for y

5 = x - 3 Add 3 on both sides

5 + 3 = x - 3 + 3

8 = x
