How did American imperialism differ from European imperialism?

American imperialism differed from European imperialism primarily because European powers conquered entire nations. By 1900, Britain had a larger empire than any in history, while almost all of Africa and the Middle East was under the control of European power. American imperialism didnot focus as much on conquest.
