y = -|x + 2| + 1

Steps:

y = a|x - h| + k

a is reflections across x-axis & vertical shrink or stretch

h is opposite of horizontal shift

k is vertical shift

a = -1 because the function opens downward but doesn't have any vertical shrink or stretch

h = -2

k = 1

plug in a, h and k

y = -1|x + 2| + 1

since a is a multiplier and equals -1, you don't need to show the 1, but you need to show the negative

y = -|x + 2| + 1
