A car rental company charges $39 per day plus 30¢ per mile. A second company charges $45 per day and 25¢ per mile. Write and solve an equation to determine the number of miles for which the cost of renting a car for one day would be the same for both companies.

Answer:

120 miles

Explanation:

let m = the number of miles

$39 + .3m = $45 + .25m

subtract 39 from each side

.3m = $6 + .25m

subtract .25m from both sides

.05m = $6

divide both sides by .05

m = 120
