Many wars have been fought in the past over ownership and control of land. However, World War I was not fought for this reason. Why did countries around the world send their soldiers into battle at the beginning of the 20th century?

Answer:

Treaties

Step-by-step explanation:

World War I started, in essence, because of a web of treaties which obliged nations to come to each other's aid if they were under attack.

Answer:

World War I was fought over which alliance had the most strength and power.

Step-by-step explanation:

World War I came about due to the tension and alliances of power. It was not about any ownership or control of any certain piece of land but instead who would be in control or dominate the land. It is like two children fighting over a toy neither child wants; they just do not want the other child to have the toy either.
