Goryeo was known for its astronomical observatories and for making precise astronomical observations, which led to the creation of detailed astronomical charts, and the compilation of the "Jijeok Jido" (Jijeok's Map of the Stars), a comprehensive star map that was widely used for navigation and timekeeping. Goryeo also developed accurate lunar and solar calendars, which were used to predict eclipses and to regulate the agricultural calendar.
