3/8 yards.



1/2 is the same as 4/8, since 4 is 1/2 of 8. So, you just need to subtract 4/8 from 7/8 to find the remaining ribbon.

7/8 minus 4/8 is 3/8, so there would be 3/8 yards of ribbon remaining.
