Ideals of the enlightenment greatly affected the USA, specifically with its constitution. In the US constitution you find ideas of John Locke and Montesquieu: Locke’s theory of the role of government being to protect the natural rights (life liberty and property) of its people and Montesquieu’s idea of separation of powers (so the US has 3 branches of government).
