Whenever you do any writing, you should read all material needed to answer the question or prompt. You should document (pre-write, make notes, plan) your answer. There are many ways to do this. (Look up the four-square writing process. This is VERY easy and does a great job organizing your writing.) Lastly, you should write citations that you are going to need for your writing to prove your point or answer.
