Do you mean responding to stimuli? If so,when a stimulant is sensed by an organism whether by touch,smell,e.t.c. it causes the organism to react to the stimulant. For example,you eat a food which you think is tasty but when you eat is actually bitter. You may spontaneously spit out the food.
