Summarizing How did the Roman government maintain control over conquered territories?

They kept soldiers at each territory, then I think a messenger made a letter of the overall "condition" of it then brought it back to the original Rome to keep tabs.

They made the conquered territory provinces, so it could be ruled by a governor.
