The Civil War ended when General Lee surrendered to General Grant at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia.
The surrender of the Northern Virginia army by General Robert E. Lee at the Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865, is generally considered the end of the Confederate States. President Davis was captured in Irwinville, Georgia, on May 10, and the rest of the Confederate forces surrendered in June 1865. The last Confederate flag was dropped from Shenandoah on November 6, 1865.
