At the game Spectators can buy a large popcorn (16 oz cup) for $1.12 or a small popcorn (12 oz cup) for $0.96 which Popcorn option is the better buy ( has a lower unit rate)?

The unit ratio is defined as the total cost divided by the number of oz.

So, the large popcorn has a unit cost of


(1.12)/(16)=0.07

meaning that 1oz of pop corn costs 7 cents.

Similarly, the small popcorn has a unit cost of


(0.96)/(12)=0.08

meaning that 1oz of pop corn costs 8 cents.

So, the large popcorn has a lower unit rate.
