Because and number bigger then 1 increases the answer while a number under 1 decreases. Hope that helped

Answer:

Multiplying by 1 gives the same number, while multiplying by a number lower than 1 decreases it, but more than one increases it, because it is adding more to itself. For example, if you make multiple of a number, you increase it. Like duplicating something.
